Introduction

Mutende

Zambia has a population of 11.6 million of which it is estimated that 1.1 million are living with HIV/AIDS.  Over 1 million children in Zambia are orphans with over 600,000 of these because of HIV/AIDS.

Mutende Children's Village near Chingola, Zambia offers opportunities for orphans and abandoned children to be cared for in a loving, family environment and for concerned people to make a difference by changing a child's world.

Mutende Children's Village has grown out of a long standing relationship between Bristol Christian Fellowship (Charity Number 294924), together with other people in Swansea, Frome and Ireland and a number of churches in Zambia. A Zambian run project, in partnership with BCF, the "Village", in an extended family context, provides work for widows and care for orphans.  Several micro-business have developed out of this partnership to help the Village become self supporting in time.

There are currently 4 houses, where 43 children and 3 house mothers live.  The full time director lives on site.
